Christoph Wiedmann

Principal timpanist and percussionist in the Stuttgart State Orchestra

Christoph Wiedmann, percussion, born in Passau, studied at the conservatories of Munich and Berlin (Hanns -Eisler) with Edgar Guggeis, Peter Sadlo and Rainer Seegers. Already during his studies Christoph Wiedmann was timpanist of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Tanglewood Music Center under the conductors Claudio Abbado,
Pierre Boulez, Seiji Ozawa, Franz Welser-Möst, Lorin Maazel and others.
Since 1998 he has also been timpanist of the KlangVerwaltung Orchestra (Enoch zu Guttenberg and Kent Nagano).

Since 1999 Christoph Wiedmann has been engaged as deputy principal timpanist and percussionist in the Stuttgart State Orchestra.
He is involved with the Bavarian and Baden-Württemberg State Youth Orchestras as a lecturer and as a juror for the Bavarian State Committee "Jugend musiziert". Teaching assignments for timpani (2020/21) and orchestral studies percussion (2022/23) at the State University of Music Stuttgart round off his pedagogical profile.

In addition to chamber music activities (with Eric Le Sage, Emanuel Pahud, Nelson Goerner, Frank Braley, among others), Christoph Wiedmann has participated as a soloist and orchestral musician in premieres of various composers, including Wolfgang Rihm, Kryzstof Penderecki, Helmut Lachenmann, Adriana Hölszky, Josef Anton Riedl, Nicolaus A. Huber.
