ERASMUS+

The exchange program of the EU for students, teachers, and university staff

Europe should grow together - under this motto, our University has taken part in the ERASMUS Program of the European Union since 1995 as part of the individual funding in the key action KA131.

Program Goals

The program's goals are to support the basic ideas of the European Union, international, individual, institutional, and administrative networking, the support of social participation of disadvantaged groups, and the professional and personal advanced training of the participants.

Offerings for Students of the HfM Trossingen (SM Outgoings)

  • Study visits at one of our partner universities (SMS); depending on the program, 12 months can be done at different partner univerities, repeated ERASMUS visits are also possible. The minimum length of a visit is 2 months.
  • Internship/Practicum of 2-12 months at a self-selected institution or business within the EU (SMP); the internship can also be supported in the year after graduating, if it is applied for during the program. The application for an internship takes place on the student's own initiative. Bewerbung um einen Praktikumplatz erfolgt in Eigenregie. Both voluntary and compulsory internships can be funded via Erasmus.

Funding

As part of the ERAMUS program, the tuition fees of the host university do not apply. Each participant of the ERASMUS program can receive an ERASMUS Scholarship, in the amount determined by the National ERASMUS Agency. For  2023/24 the monthly grant installents are:

  • Group I for Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Sweden, United Kingdom (as part of the international Erasmus) 600€,
  • Group II for Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus 540€
  • Group III for Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, North Macedonia, Czechia, Turkey, Hungary 490€
  • In addition, there are top-ups for
  • Internships in the amount of 150€ a month
  • Children, in the amount of 250€ a month, if taking a child with you
  • a GdB of 20% or in the case of chronic diseases (or an individual subsidy based on actual costs)
  • "Green travel" in the amount of 50 € once and up to 4 additional funding days
  • Students from a non-academic family home and employed students of €250 per month.

For late applications and extensions, zero-grant stays are also possible (without a grant).

Recognition

An Erasmus program or compulsory internship counts towards the regular study time. Before the study abroad semester(s), a Learning Agreement about the course content will be completed. The achievements achieved abroad are documented in a transcript of records and recognized and credited within the framework of the applicable rules. Surplus and voluntary achievements are documented in the Diploma Supplement upon request.

Application for ERASMUS

The application is usually made via the applicant portal: www.aec.dreamapply.com. The partner universities, the application deadlines, and the application documents are also available in this portal. The centerpiece of the application are recordings (audio or video) of 15-20 minutes, 3 pieces from 3 epochs; Kernstück der Bewerbung sind die Aufnahmen (Audio oder Video) im Umfang von 15 bis 20 Minuten, 3 Stücke aus 3 Epochen; The study places at the partner universities are allocated on the basis of these admissions.

Language preparation for studies and internships: Usually minimum level B1 in the national language and/or English;; language courses can be offered and supported by ERASMUS, before orduring the exchange. Before and after the program, an online language test must be completed.

Offerings for teachers and University staff (ST)

  • Teaching stays at one of our partner universities (STA1); Minimum teaching time 8 hours on 2 days; Maximum stay 60 days
  • Invitation of teaching faculty from our partner universities to workshops and masterclasses
  • Invitation of guest teachers from businesses or institutions (STA2)
  • Further education, internships, workshops, training courses, research stays, language courses, etc. at an institution of your choice; Participation in conferences only under certain conditions. This offer is also open to administrative and technical staff (STT)
  • Financial support for trip of up to 14 days:
    1. Unit costs for accommodation and a maximum of 2 travel days: (For classification of country groups, see SM above): Country group I €180 per day; Country group II €160 per day; Country group III €140 per day;
    2. One-off unit costs for the outward and return journey (increased amount for “green travel” in brackets) for each one-way distance between 10 and 99 km €23; 100-499km 180€ (210€); 500-1999km 275€ (320€). In the case of particularly expensive trips (e.g. due to taking instruments with you), a surcharge may be paid.

General Information about ERASMUS

The following countries participate in the ERASMUS program: All EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey, Serbia and North Macedonia. Under certain conditions, mobility can also be funded (International ERASMUS within the framework of KA131) at our partner universities in Great Britain and Israel. Switzerland does not currently participate in the ERASMUS program, but does offer a similar exchange program (SEMP/Movetia); in this case, the grants will be paid by Switzerland.

The basis for the exchange is the ERASMUS charter for higher education 2021-2027, which was awarded to our University by the European Commission in Brussels.

After an ERASMUS exchange, all participants are required to report. If this is not done, payment of the ERASMUS grant can be refused or reclaimed.

The National Agency (NA) for EU cooperation NA DAAD is responsible for implementing the ERASMUS program; the NA is part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Disclaimer: NA, the European Commission and their staff shall not be held liable for any claims under this Agreement related to damage incurred during the implementation of the mobility periods. Corresponding compensation or reimbursement claims against the National Agency or the European Commission are therefore excluded.

Erasmus +

The University of Music Trossingen has taken part in the ERASMUS Program of the European Union since 1995 to contribute to the constantly changing approach of the academic field in Europe. The program allows an exchange for students and teachers with a university of music within the European Union.
The University of Music Trossingen offers places in the framework of ERASMUS Key Action K131 (individual mobility) and is pleased to welcome guest students and teachers to enrich the academic day-to-day life with their experiences and ideas.

  • We offer places for ERASMUS studies (SMS) and Erasmus traineeships (SMP) for all classic instruments and eurythmics  (1st, 2nd and 3rd study cycles) and music design (1st cycle)
  • We also organize teacher and staff exchanges  for master classes, research or job shadowing (STA1, STA2; STT).

The dates of our academic year:

  • Winter semester: lessons from beginning of October until end of February 
  • Summer semester: lessons from beginning of April until end of July.

Information for Incoming ERASMUS students (SMS KA131)

Students of our ERASMUS partners are welcome to study here in Trossingen for up to one year (SMS).  Full recognition is given (by the ECTS/ European Credit Transfer System in the field of the Bachelor and Master programs) and an equal academic treatment is ensured. Please be aware that ERASMUS placements (SMP) are not offered.

  • Application deadline: March 31st (only one application deadline for all study periods)
  • Application requirements: You have to fill in your personal dates and your study plan and to load up your CV, photo and recordings (3 pieces from 3 epochs, about 15 minutes total). Transcripts are not required for the application.
  • Language requirements: German B1. All lessons are taught in German. English is not sufficient for your study. We do not offer any German language courses.
  • Learning Agreement and lessons:  The Learning Agreement will be generated automatically from your study plan of your application.
  • The link for the regular lessons. The "Course Bulletin" lists the additional and elective lessons of the current semester and is published at the beginning of the semester.
  • Admission: Exchange students can only be accepted when their application (recording) meets the requirements and if there are enough free places. The applicant will be informed about the result of the application in May at the latest.

Information for Erasmus Incoming Teachers

ERASMUS teaching mobility STA : The Erasmus programm supports and facilitates also the academic exchange of teachers from our Erasmus partner institutions. Teachers are supported financially and administratively to offer courses abroad. Minimum teaching: 2 days/ 8 hours.
ERASMUS staff mobility STT: ERASMUS staff mobility gives teaching and administrative staff the chance of personal vocational training in courses, workshops or job shadowing.
